This DMREF grant enabled University of Alabama to host 20 teachers from Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas, Tennessee, Georgia, Florida and even California in an ASM Materials Camp II June 24-28th, 2024. This camp builds on the training from the prior year’s camp’s introduction to materials concepts and was the only Camp II held outside the state of Ohio.

The teachers were given more instruction into how to incorporate materials into their physics, chemistry, and physical science courses. While onsite, they were able to perform casting experiments in the foundry and tour the Nucor plant in Tuscaloosa. University of Alabama plans on hosting the Camp I experience in 2025 creating a rotating opportunity between the two camps in the future supported by the DMREF project.
